Why we love walk and talk therapy
-
Step out of the office and into nature. No more feeling trapped in a therapy office when you'd rather be moving your body outside!
-
Walking side-by-side can ease the pressure of face-to-face conversations. Many people find that it feels more natural to open up this way.
-
Experience the positive effects of physical activity and outdoor exposure while still reaping the benefits of evidence-based therapy methods.
-
Our tailored approach celebrates your unique needs and preferences. Plus, we offer traditional in-person sessions and virtual therapy if you decide walk and talk therapy isn't for you.
Who is walk and talk therapy for?
Our walking therapy sessions are ideal for:
Individuals seeking a more active and engaging therapy experience
People using mobility devices (like wheelchairs) who are interested in therapy outside of the office
Teens who may feel more comfortable opening up outside of a traditional office
LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies seeking affirming mental health support
Anyone who enjoys the outdoors and wants to incorporate nature into their healing process
People who are especially interested in tapping into their mind-body connection

FAQs about walk/talk therapy
-
Walk and talk therapy is just what it sounds like: a combination of walking and traditional talk therapy. Walk therapy typically takes place in an outdoor setting that you and your therapist will pre-determine. We'll walk together while discussing your concerns, just as you would in an office setting.
A walking talk therapy session typically lasts around 50 minutes (like traditional sessions) and the pace is set to your comfort level. We’ll discuss where to meet ahead of time.
-
As with all forms of therapy, walk/talk therapy adheres to strict ethical guidelines:
Confidentiality: We take extra precautions to ensure your privacy, such as choosing less crowded areas and being mindful of our surroundings.
Informed consent: Before starting, we'll discuss the potential risks and benefits, and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions.
Professional boundaries: Despite the informal setting, we maintain the same professional relationship as in traditional therapy.
Inclusivity: We ensure that sessions are accessible to clients with varying physical abilities.
Feel free to reach out to us directly to discuss further questions or concerns.
-
Comfort is key! We recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy walking shoes. Don't forget to bring water, and consider sun protection (hat, sunscreen) for outdoor sessions.
-
Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. If the weather isn't suitable for an outdoor session, we have several options:
Reschedule the session
Convert to an online telehealth appointment
Meet at our office for a traditional in-person session (subject to availability)
We'll always communicate with you in advance if weather and air quality might impact our session.

If you're in the Denver or Front Range area, you're in luck! Our practice offers walk and talk therapy services tailored to your location preferences. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss where to meet. I’m able to meet clients in various areas around Denver, Highlands, Edgewater, and Wheat Ridge.
For those outside our immediate area, we recommend searching for "walk and talk therapy" or "outdoor therapy" along with your location, or asking your local mental health providers if they offer this service. Online therapy directories can also be helpful.
